Motorcycle sputters at half throttle

I have a 1999 prairie 400 4x4 its been sitting for a while but I did get it to fire and rode it around a bit but if you get on the throttle it doesn't want to go right away and when it does get up and go its sputters and backfires but will eventually get up to speed. However under load it stutters badly at just under half throttle which restricts top speed to about 60 mph. I cant tell you what RPM that is as the electronic counter is not yet working properly.. When I put the selector valve to Prime or Reserve, it goes OK, but switched to On again it craps out after about half a mile. The problem started very quickly - i.e. no warning signs. 2 turns out. If the air filter is clogged or has a lot of dirt in it, it could be bogging down the engine. Clean the air filter and see if the problem goes away. Idle circuit, Pilot or low throttle circuit (up to maybe 1/8 open) and the main circuit/needle (1/8 to WOT). The Amount the throttle is opened defines which circuit you are using not rpm. Example low rpm and go WOT, you go onto main circuit almost immediately. If the flashing reverse light correlates with the "sputtering" it is the connection at the reverse rev limit switch under the airbox... Trace the green/wht wire back in the harness about 12" to the disconnect...ground that wire...to the motor at the battery cable under the shifter.Blatant copy & paste that may be of help and an addition to your printed manual. It could be blocked jets, incorrect settings, or the air screw. Making sure everything is functioning as it should and that it is clean. At 0-1/4 throttle openings, it’s most likely the pilot jet circuit. This could be a simple air screw adjustment, or you may need to change the pilot jet size. My bike will cut out every time when I'm at full throttle and start to over rev. When it reaches max rpm's it cuts out continuously for about half a second at a time. At 2,000 rpm the throttle body butterflies are just opening a bit. Over time (especially with crappy EtOH fuel) a varnish can build up. Replace the needle, carefully screwing it all the way in until it lightly seats. Then back out 2 1/2 turns. Reassemble everything.
